Creation of our Skull Model!!

Today, we made the skull model that will hold our brain during the experiment.

It was decided it was best to use paper mache for the creation of the skull, so the gathered materials are newspaper, glue and a balloon, to fix the size of the skull.

The skull is going to be used to contain a brain, and in order for a realistic feel and result, we needed to make the paper mache almost as thick as a skull, or as close to it as possible. It would be a problem if the skull shattered at a slow speed, right?

The drying process...

Research found that the average skull size for a male was 17.6 x 14.5 cm and 6.5mm thickness. However our brain mold was sized 22.2 x 19.7 x 9.8 cm, so the skull had to be made with a larger size. The thickness was also slightly questionable due to the fact that it is paper mache, however it is alright, because 3-4 layers of paper mache shouldn't crack.

Size comparisons to a 30cm ruler.

Now, all that we need to do is make the brain and we're all set!
