Some Deadly Facts and How to Minimize Risk

With snow falling now I have found quite a few eye-opening facts relating to car crashes and have listed a couple here:

  • There are an annual of 1.3 million deaths due to car crashes, which translates to close to 3300 deaths daily – accounting for 2.2% of the global mortality rate

  • Half of these deaths occur to people ages 15-44

  • Road crashes amount to around $518 billion U

SD in total, a number that is continually rising

Car crashes are quite severe and play a heavy detriment for not only the society, but also the economy. Because we’re approaching the winter season, it’s important to proceed with extra caution (especially in severely cold winters like ours). Although some may be obvious, here are some tips to help you stay safe on the snowy, icy road:

  • GET WINTER TIRES! They provide a great difference in terms of safety and control of the actual vehicle

  • Avoid cruise control. Keeping your car on cruise mode makes it really easy for you to lose complete control in case of a sudden event

  • Learn your car’s braking system. Various cars have different brakes, from rear wheel to four wheel. Find out what kind of brakes your car has and learn how to use them properly to prevent or regain control from vehicle skidding

Hopefully you can take something away from the following information and tips and we hope you stay safe on the road. Cheers!
